ORF6 Google Drive Data
ORF6– an interaction was discovered between SARS-CoV-2 Orf6 and NUP98-RAE1, an interferon-inducible mRNA nuclear export complex that is commonly hijacked or degraded by viruses.8 The loss of ORF3b and truncation/changes in ORF6 in SARS-CoV-2 could signal a reduced capacity of SARS-CoV-2 to interfere with type I IFN responses compared to SARS-CoV. In SARS-CoV ORF6, the N-terminal domain has been shown to have a clear role in its ability to disrupt karyopherin transport. SARS-CoV-2 ORF6 does not effectively block nuclear transport as well as SARS-CoV ORF6.29 This protein could be a determinant of virus virulence and it seems to stimulate cellular DNA synthesis in vitro.2
